I
was always a pretty crappy artist, but I always wanted to do it.
I've scanned in a few of the things I've done over the years that
I could find right here. Now, at least it's all digitized. This
way, I won't feel too bad if everything I own burns up or something.
By the way, I had to scan a lot of stuff in pieces, so you may
notice some distortion on some of the works. There's still a lot
of stuff lying around somewhere. I especially want to know where
my Toxic Boy comic book is. Family, has anybody seen it? I'd love
to put it on here.

Here's a sort of self-portrait I did in middle
school. Back then there was this Cure cd called Mixed Up
and the cover had some mixed paint on it. I thought the look
of random colors usually looked better than a subject (or
at least my subjects). I tended to draw myself (or my altar-ego,
Toxic Boy) with an X-laden t-shirt on. I guess it was my way
of being anti-establishment. |
This is high school stuff. The assignment was
to just draw some scissors, but I really like the one on the
left because of the tiny little wizard I stuck in there. It's
sort of cute how the wizard is levetating the scissors so
he can cut up a kingdom or something. |

Here's a two-tone self portrait. When most
people see this they say it looks like my brother Mike.
It's the only time the two of us have ever looked alike.
This picture has a small problem. It was damaged so there's
residue of tape or something where I tried to tape the ripped
nose up. Maybe the Sphinx would look dumb too if they tried
to fix the nose.

1995 was the year of the pig. There was some
kind of contest to somehow incorporate that into a post-card.
My art teacher convinced me to enter in, so I just whipped
something up really fast and wound up really liking what I
wound up with. For some reason I did this weird yellow sky,
which I came back to when I did a religious mosaic in college.
I sort of like the pig, even though I sort of made up what
a pig should look like. |
Here's my big one. Since it took
me so long and I was so anal about the whole thing (except
for the pizza grease stain near the bottom), this is my favorite.
Over the years I've wondered what it means. Now I sort of
feel that it's about the loneliness that comes with reaching
for worldy success. I really put elements of my driver's license
on there, but put a couple of jokes in instead of dangerous
personal information. |

This is just one page of my sketch book in college.
It's my favorite page because it's two faces: one of me and
the other of my friend Ammon. I'm probing and Ammon is in
agony and I kind of like both representations. |
Here are three more drawings in college that I don't really
like, so I touched them up in Photoshop.
The first one is supposed to be the perfect girl. Meh.
I like her hair a lot. My teacher told me the hips were
too boyish. I started wondering if my ideal girl looks like
me.
The second one is just some bugs.
The third one is what it is, but I think Photoshop really
makes the contrast interesting.

The weird things below are from
a computer-rendering class. The First one is just supposed
to be our own design of teacups and a kettle. I like how one
of the cups broke, but the whole thing is too purpley. The
second and third pictures are the same thing from different
views, lightings and colors. The lamp took me about 30 seconds
and the stupid rat took about three days. I did the reverse
view on the last pic to show how the water is actually transparent.
The surface is supposed to be wood, but I didn't learn enough
in the class to adjust the texture scale, so it looks all
bunched up. |

Here's one of my calligraphy assignments. If
you know your stuff, you should know that this is a quote
from a Depeche Mode song. I Photoshopped some major mistakes
I made with the stupid gold leaf and some glue just above
the second and third letters. The really great thing about
this work is the frame -- red velvet. |
